As part of its digital transformation plan, the Centre de services scolaires des Grandes-Seigneuries aims to equip itself with a centralized analytics solution for its administrative and educational services. Facing a growing demand for analysis tools and dashboards, our client engaged us to deploy a temporary solution that empowers internal stakeholders in developing Power BI reports, while preparing for a future technology architecture centered on Snowflake.
Challenge
The Centre de services scolaires des Grandes-Seigneuries has an initial informational environment based on a database and Excel files. However, challenges such as data redundancy, delays in report production, and significant manual efforts require an urgent shift to a more robust system. In the short term, a temporary cloud-based analytics solution must be deployed within a local ecosystem to meet immediate analysis and reporting needs. In the long term, this solution will integrate into a broader ecosystem centered on Snowflake.
This project aims to :
- Define and deploy a data warehouse and a data mart to centralize information ;
- Prepare the necessary documentation and establish a method for using data with Power BI ;
- Develop a clear action plan to ensure a smooth transition to the future technology roadmap.
Solution
In collaboration with the Centre de services scolaires des Grandes-Seigneuries, we have adopted a phased approach to address these needs. A temporary architecture has been set up in the cloud with Microsoft Azure, integrating:
- Azure Data Factory to automate the extraction and transformation of data from the DOFIN SQL server and Excel files ;
- Azure Data Lake Storage to store raw data, and Azure SQL Data Warehouse to host a structured data mart, with incremental loading ensuring regular updates.
Under Power BI, intuitive and secure dashboards provide advanced reporting capabilities, delivering real-time information to decision-makers.
Process automation has been deployed via Azure DevOps, ensuring efficient and scalable management. Finally, a transition plan has been established to align this solution with long-term strategic objectives.
To align with the client’s future technology roadmap, we have implemented a transition plan towards Snowflake, ensuring that this solution meets long-term strategic goals. As a result, our client has an adaptable and future-ready analytics solution.
